ARC Book Review: Sultry Desire

"On a shivering night, I found my light in the corner of the staircase tonight."

Sultry Desire
Ric I

Description:

Adrena Raja, a skillful nurse from New York, flew to Montana to seek justice for her fraternal twin sister’s horrendous death. She already has the suspects in mind and labeled them as the Seven Deadly Sins.

The stars have aligned, and she found herself working for Ezequiel Calicius Vigilianco—the husband of the late Athena Arceli. In the steamy moments with him, Adrena now faces a great dilemma between her heart and mind.

And with the strange events in the Vigilianco Mansion, will she still be able to believe that the suspects are connected to the death of her beloved sister, even if they are dying one by one in an enigmatic death?

First of all, thank you so much to the author, himself, Mr. Ric I for providing me a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I am grateful for this opportunity to read and review your first published book.

Rating: ★★★ (3)

Reading a suspense-thriller book (psychological fiction) is definitely out of my comfort reads thus when I decided to read one, I have this unwritten rule that it needs to make me feel something strange, and yet will still keep me turning the pages.

I truly appreciate the creativity of the author - incorporating the suspected killers with the seven deadly sins, including backstories to understand the characters, and despite how common the setting is - in a mansion full of secrets and all, the ending still surprised me. However, there are rooms for improvement in the way of writing and execution of scenes as it did not entirely give the strong suspense and spicy vibes that I was expecting. It gave the right amount of mystery more than the thrill. The transition from present to past (flashbacks) while understandable, I had some moments of confusion that I had to reread the part just because it wasn't clear at the first take.

It's nice that after reading it, it will make you realize and learn something.
Sometimes what people are showing is only the facade of something that is already ruined. It's sad but it's real. That love, even if powerful, still needs to strive hard in one's heart to defeat anger and hatred -with an equal amount of patience, attention, and reason.

Not book-related, but it reminded me of what the two teams of Chef Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen cooking reality show say when the dining service is about to end - "always finish strong". Overall, it was a good reading experience. It started slow and ended with a bang!

I'm recommending this to readers who are new, and attempting to enter and explore the thriller genre, like me. For the age level, I think 16 years old and above are the appropriate readers for this.

You can directly message the author if you're interested to purchase the book.
